Watch NM's legislators debate ethics from home!

marjorie says...

A number of ethics bills are being heard tomorrow morning--all together in the Senate Rules Committee.

You can not only watch from home, you can participate also. The New Mexico Independent will be webcasting the committee meeting, and also conducting an open live blog which you can participate in.

It starts early--8:00am--but most definitely a worthy way to spend your Friday morning.

You can call your legislator beforehand to express your opinion about ethics reform. From a New Mexico Voices for Children email:

The Senate Rules Committee is dedicating tomorrow morning’s hearing to ethics legislation. Please call the state Capitol today and ask your legislators to support limiting campaign contributions, opening conference committee hearings, and creating a waiting period for legislators-turned-lobbyists. Also, please ask them to not restrict the ability of nonprofits to raise funds and protect the confidentiality of those donors who request it.

You can call the Capitol switchboard at 505-986-4300 and ask to be transferred to your senator and representative. Or you can get contact information for your legislators online at http://legis.state.nm.us/lcs/. Don’t know who your legislators are? Click here: http://legis.state.nm.us/legislatorsearch.aspx.
