National Poetry Slam in ABQ

Maggie says:
So in case any of you haven't noticed the signs all over town (and in case you don't regularly check out our lighter-side blog m-pyrical, where Mikaela has been talking it up), the National Poetry Slam is coming to Albuquerque THIS WEEK!

Why should this interest you?

1) If you're an m-pyre fan, you already know that Mikaela is quite the poet. In fact, Mikaela is one of the Volunteer Coordinators at this year's slam and has been working her ass off to make this happen. She's so good at what she does that she finagled Marjorie and I into volunteering at the Slam, which brings me to the next point...

2) This is your chance to see M3 in action all week. I'll be the Venue Manager at the Flying Star Downtown on Wed, Thurs, and Fri nights, where poets will compete from 7-11 p.m. Marjorie will be the Venue Manager at the National Flamenco Institute on Wed and Thurs from 7-11 p.m. and will also be working the finals on Saturday night. And Mikaela (bless her heart) will be running all over the place, so chances are you'll see her pretty much wherever you go.

3) If you don't know much about poetry slams (Marjorie and I are definitely slam virgins, so you're not alone), then this is your chance to get into it. The Alibi did a great write-up of what to expect, so check it out to get pumped.

Please attend! The schedule is on the NPS website, the events are cheap, the finals should be full of drama and excitement (I have to miss them to drive to Arkansas... grrrrr....) and who knows what crazy things you'll see downtown. Really, there is not a single reason to miss this week full of events. And just think of how happy you'll make Mikaela (not to mention all the other hard-working organizers who deserve tons of credit) if there's great turnout.

So go. Just do it. We'll see you there.
