Just in case you missed it...
While Laura Bush thinks that the victims of Katrina being mostly poor and black is, well, "just the way it is," Barbara Bush thinks they're getting a pretty darn good deal!
as Salon reports on September 2:
What about the people still stuck in New Orleans? (Laura) Bush was asked about the fact that most of them are poor and black. That's just the way it is, she said. "This is what happens when there's a natural disaster of this scope," Bush said. "The poorer people are usually in the neighborhoods that are the lowest or the most exposed or the most vulnerable. Their housing is the most vulnerable to natural disaster. And that is just always what happens."
And from numerous news reports, this is what Barbara said over labor day weekend:
"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program "Marketplace." "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."
Did you hear that folks? Barb says they're HAPPY about what happened to them!
Yeah, right. Nice to know Laura and Barbara have such a great understanding of poverty.
